Mummy Musing

This past week has been Vacation Bible School at our church. The theme was Egypt, Joseph's Journey from prison to palace. We had a great turn out of about 40+ kids. From playing games, making crafts, singing and learning about God's word about Joseph, it was an exciting eventful week. I was in charge of the preschool - kinder group. Oh boy is right! They kept me on my toes. Unfortunately Grant is still working the night shift so he had to miss out. He probably would have looked great in those pharoah outfits the guys were wearing.

{Get on your feet and sing time}

The children really got into the worship songs and the learning their egyptian hand motions. We all were moving our feet, praising our great and mighty God. Praying that seeds were planted in the children this week.

hello cow

Our neighbors consist of apple trees and cattle. Lately, I have become pretty attached to the cows. Yes I will admit, I am fond of them. Days when I am home by myself (which is pretty often) the cows are my company. When they move to a pasture a field or two over, I miss them. I realize this is probably the most pathetic post I will ever write, but I couldn't think of anything else to write. Life in Brewster is easy living. Days consist of work, eat, and sleep. Occasionally I need to run to the market or post office. With Grant working the night shifts, our days have been off. He sleeps 'til noon, eats breakfast/lunch and gets ready to go back to work at 3pm. As for me, I work at Karma Vineyards with during the day or night. Sometimes I try to wait up for Grant by watching several episodes of NCIS. (Thank you Jenelle for supplying me with weeks worth of episodes) And lets all remember, I live in Brewster.

summer berry delight

My friend Mandy from work gave me some rasberries the other day. I was excited because there was a recipe I found on one of my favorite blogs I have been wanting to make (http://www.shutterbean.com/). So I attempted to replicate it and well....it turned out pretty tasty. As an amateur cook/baker, I like recipes that are easy and quick. This was a winner.  Instead of using regular milk, I opted for soy milk so Grant could enjoy the treat. I have been making smoothies with soy milk and that seems to work for lactose intolerant tummies without too much of a change in flavor.  This is the perfect treat to a hot summer day.

Little Summer Berry Puddings

Makes 4
(recipe from The Canal House Cookbook, Vol. 1)
  • 4 cups fresh raspberries
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 12 slices white bread, crusts removed
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 cup softly whipped cream
1.   Put the raspberries in a bowl and sprinkle the sugar over them. Shake the bowl to mix them together without crushing the berries. Set aside to macerate for half an hour.
2.   You will need four 6-8-ounce ramekins for your pudding molds. Cut a circle out of each slice of bread, using a ramekin as a template. Pour the milk into a wide dish.
3.   Working with one circle of bread at a time, quickly dip the bread into the milk until just moist but not soggy, then press it into one of the ramekins, lining the bottom. Cover the layer of bread with a generous layer of berries. Make another layer with the moistened bread and berries, then add a third circle of moistened bread. The ramekin should be filled to (or even swollen above) the rim. Layer the remaining 3 ramekins in the same fashion, using the remaining bread and berries. Spoon any juices over the top.
4.   Put the filled ramekins on a small tray or baking dish, loosely cover each one with plastic wrap or parchment paper, and set a heavy dish directly on top of them as a weight to press the layers together. (I used food cans that were wide enough and heavy enough to cover the ramekin)
5.   Refrigerate the puddings until the bread and berries have completely melded together, about 4 hours. They'll keep well in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
6.   To serve, uncover the ramekins and run a small knife around the inside edges. Invert each pudding onto a dessert plate and unmold it gently. Sprinkle the puddings with some sugar and put a nice spoonful of whipped cream on top.

Ohme gardens

On one of the last weekends Grant had for the summer, he took me on a date. It was fun to spend the day in Wenatchee seeing the beautiful Ohme Gardens, eating Mongolian bbq, and watchin a movie. We finally saw Thor, which to my suprise wasn't bad after all. The Ohme Gardens are unique because a man and his wife came to Wenatchee, bought a barren 40 acre hillside, and planted trees taken from the Cascade moutains to create a lush rock garden that covers 9 acres. If you ever get bored, you should google it. The views were beautiful.

good day.

inspired

I think I want to do this in my studio. Maybe it will inspire me to paint more. Color makes me smile.

week of boys

The boys came up to visit again. It is fun having visitors in the summer because we can get out and do more things. I didn't get many images from the week, but I know Evan has an entire facebook album devoted to their trip.

Happy Fourth of July

Happy Fourth of July everyone! I was a bit bummed to not be with friends at Huntington Beach this year or family bbqs, but the small town of Brewster did show us a good time. We started early with a Bike-a-thon fundraiser for my school I'll be teaching at this fall. Then we went swimming for a bit with Hawkins and Sam followed by a much needed nap. Brewster has its own 4th of July parade which suprisingly had a good turn out. I would say maybe the whole town was there. My school was in the parade as well so I got to walk in it. Grant walked with us and helped the kids pass out candy. After the 15 minutes it lasted, we headed up to the Gebbers' home for a bbq and a backyard baseball game. Unfortunately Grant's team lost to Johnny and Hawkins, but I'm pretty sure they were ahead most of the game.

I made jello!

And of course we were visited by Bambi...or Bambette I should say.

I'm back

So it seems I've taken a vacation from blogging. I knew I wouldn't be good at keeping up with this thing. But hopefully I can now. Consider this as a mid-year resolution. Since the last post was at christmas time, I should probably fill you in on recent happenings since then. Don't worry, more to come.

My sister Michaelene and her boyfriend Sam came to visit in January.

Grant and I finally went snowshoeing

The boys came up to visit and we went skiing at Mission Ridge.

We had our fair share of sledding this past winter.

Grant made me a delicious chocolate birthday cake!

Grant was patient teaching me how to ski.

Sister and brother -in laws, Jenelle and Derek came to visit in March.

The lovely Kari Walton and Amy Cano came and we spent a day/night having fun in Seattle before adventuring back to Brewster.

Went golfing on Easter.

Had fun parasailing in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on a small family vacation.

Visited the newest member of the family, baby Marcus Jackson! Born May 5, 2011

Reunited.

Grant bought a jet plane.
